Often I start my abstract work by animating the surface spontaneously and creating lots of gestural lines very fast. This excites the surface and creates a kind of chaos. This also sets an intention for things to come later. Within this chaos and disorder, I work towards finding a meaning and resolution. As I am working, it is exciting to see new shapes and forms emerge and observe the changes and transformation that happens with every new move and gesture. As an artist I am always looking for that a-ha moment when things seem to resolve and it feels like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle have come together to create harmony and meaning in the work.
